MOBILE GAS SERVICE CORPORATION

Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) Assessment, Remediation, and Community Mitigations

CERM is providing environmental program management services to Mobile Gas Service Corporation in connection with the utility company’s plan to re-mediate a ten-acre former manufactured gas plant (MGP) that was operated from 1836 to the 1930s in downtown Mobile, Alabama. Like most MGP facilities of that era, the property is situated in a densely populated urban community that includes public housing, S.D. Bishop State Junior College, several schools, churches, an urban stream, and limited commercial development. Given the historical concerns surrounding potential environmental and health impacts, CERM is leading a community mitigations program to address environmental justice and equity concerns, while providing technical leadership through the assessment and remedial phase of the project.
