Billyde Brown, Ph.D. Bio

Dr. Billyde Brown is a Senior Research Faculty and Education and Workforce Development (EWD) Director at the Georgia Tech Manufacturing Institute (GTMI), of several interdisciplinary research institutes at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Brown’s primary role is to create strong partnerships among industry, government, and academia in manufacturing research, development, and deployment, while acquiring and managing sponsored research programs. Dr. Brown is also a Manufacturing Advisor with the Georgia Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) Business Center where he provides engineering services and connects minority-owned businesses and manufacturers with resources and expertise on Georgia Tech’s campus. Further, Dr. Brown coordinates a Manufacturing Certificate, NSF IMPACTS, and other DEI programs while teaching an undergraduate mechanical engineering design studio, heat and mass transfer materials science and engineering course, and a graduate-level manufacturing seminar course within the Georgia Tech College of Engineering. Dr. Brown hosts the GTMI Lunch and Learn Lecture Series where each semester he arranges 5-10 industry, government, and academic speakers from around the world to share advanced manufacturing knowledge. Dr. Brown has strong expertise in several technical areas including electrochemical biosensors, nanomaterial synthesis and characterization, thin-film additive manufacturing, and electrochemical energy storage. Dr. Brown has over 20 peer-reviewed publications and is a regular reviewer of high impact factor peer reviewed journals. He earned his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from NC State University and Duke University, respectively.
